"M (mobile) Learning captivates NEETs (Not in Education, Employment or Training). PDA/mobile phone technology facilitates tutors in re-engaging young people to achieve varied, individual targets. Reaching NEETs is not easy: their lives are unstructured, and erratic. They maybe homeless: sofa surfing. Loaned PDAs enable contact between mentors and learners at any time.

With PDA software, the phones are used like laptops for completion of CVs, applications for college, job searches and gaining qualifications. Learners gain self-esteem as they feel trusted and they appear 'cool' to their peers. Tutors carefully and skilfully handle this contact to lead to positive engagement"

"Success was demonstrated in the first year alone: 78% of the 20 learners reengaged. (46% achieved Key Skills qualifications. 36% entered employment, and 50% re-entered education.) The remainder recorded 'soft' successes gaining confidence and self-esteem, applying for courses or jobs.
