Gadget Given to Local Fifth Graders.
If you walked into Cimarron Elementary School in Katy you could have seen a first. A teacher handed out smart phone devices and encouraged the kids to use them in class and even take them home. "I was really excited," said student Abby Sticker. They're excited because the school is testing Mobile Learning Devices (MLD). They are like smart cell phones, but without the phone or texting. 'It's kind of a different way of looking at things," said Principal Mindy Dickerson. It's different because for years now, anything like a cell phone at a school had to be out of view. The MLD's change everything. Students have access to the Internet( the district filters which sites are available). They can listen to podcasts and even complete worksheets on the device. That means no pen and paper and the kids don't seem to mind. "I'm excited to do my homework," Sticker said. Article and Video link
